Kathryn Keller

I was born and raised in San Diego, Ca. I received an MFA in Art from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. My work career has included teaching art at the college level and working as a commercial artist in architectural painting and design.

My current artwork has been focused on people and groups of people. In the individual portrait, I attempt to state, elevate or imply personality and character with a suggested narrative, utilizing references to contemporary events, art history, feminist issues and pop culture. I'm interested in juxtaposing several portraits together to create a "conversation" and associative tension. By utilizing scale and the direct gaze my portraits are meant to be confrontational. At this moment in time I enjoy working with charcoal, mixed media and photoshop.
