Arrowsmith Studio:
Arrowsmith Studios at the Brewery Art Walk features abstract and wood-carved paintings by Dawn
Arrowsmith, figurative oil paintings by Jorin Bossen, and floral paintings by the late Roland Reiss. The
show highlights the distinct styles of these three artists and their contributions to contemporary
painting.
Dawn Arrowsmith Bio:
Dawn Arrowsmith is a Los Angeles-based artist working across painting, sculpture, installation, and
performance, with exhibitions throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia, including the Hammer Museum,
LACMA, Tate Modern, and the Ducal Palace. Her work is held in major public and private collections
such as the Eli Broad/Sun America Collection and the Claremont Lewis Museum of Art. Born in San
Francisco, she earned a B.F.A. from California State University, Fullerton, and an M.F.A. from
Claremont Graduate University. She lives and works in Los Angeles and is represented by William
Turner Gallery, Santa Monica.
Roland Reiss Bio:
Roland Reiss (1929–2020) was a transformative figure in the Los Angeles and Southern California art
scene, renowned for his innovative and ever-evolving work, described by him as “energy fields and
spaces in which colors and forms generate expressive visual experience.” He exhibited extensively,
with solo shows at Cirrus and Ace Gallery—where he was exclusively represented for 14 years—as
well as major institutions including LACMA, the Whitney Biennial, and documenta in Kassel. Trained
at the American Academy of Art, Mt. San Antonio College, and UCLA, Reiss taught at UCLA, the
University of Colorado, and Claremont Graduate University, where he held the Benezet Chair in the
Humanities and received the College Art Association’s Distinguished Teaching of Art Award in 2009.
His work is held in prominent collections such as the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles,
LACMA, the Whitney Museum, and the Hammer Museum. He was the recipient of four NEA grants
and numerous other honors.
Jorin Bossen Bio:
Jorin Bossen is a Los Angeles–based painter whose work explores the subtle dynamics of human
interaction through layered figuration and material-rich surfaces. Influenced by post-impressionism,
abstract expressionism, and experimental film, his paintings examine themes of identity, vulnerability,
and emotional tension. He has exhibited across the U.S. and internationally, with work featured in
New American Paintings (No. 53, cover), and is a member of the artist collective Durden and Ray.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, Bossen holds an M.F.A. from Claremont Graduate University and a B.A.
from Kalamazoo College.
