Through painting I aim to encourage human tenderness and goodwill, and to evoke a sense of playfulness. In recent work, I create figurative paintings that have stakes in both abstraction and graphic art—flattened, simplified forms in saturated colors that become stages for patterns and mark-making. I love bold color, expressive lines, shapes with both simplicity and character, and intersections between digital and handmade art. My paintings often start from photographs or digital work which I then render in oil or acrylic or both. I frequently digitally refigure pieces begun on canvas, in a process of back and forth between the electronic and the real.
