Francine Lecoultre
Born in a medieval village of the French speaking Switzerland, FrancineLecoultre is a figurative artist, designer and artisan. Her unique visual language draws ideas from her fascination for nature and craftsmanship. Francine’s creative process is fueled by an introspective reality of her dreams and re-visitation of early childhood experiences, the power of associative memory, fantasy and fear.
Living in Los Angeles since 1992, Francine has worked on numerous Hollywood movies and theatrical productions around the world, designing costumes and creating specialty fabrics for iconic fantastical characters. She has developed a market and presence in the US, Europe and China.
Drawing from a wide range of cultural and historical sources, Francine creates brightly-colored images often highlighted with superpositions of metallic textures, that are emotional, often provocative and always beautiful. Her commitment is the future of the next generations in the Technological Revolution, and empowering others through art, design and cinema.
Her latest research and experiments led to the development of 3D printing jewelry, masks, corsets and sculptural pieces, including the crown for Prince Lavelle in the film Coming 2 America, for master costume designer Ruth Carter. In 2021, Francine was commissioned to re-created the crown for Evillene in the movie The Wiz – 1978, exhibited in the permanent Collection of the Academy Museum.
