We as artists create objects that nourish and enrich existence, and as such what we do, consciously or not, has profound effect. The images I create are about life and the sheltering aspects of Nature – I focus on botanical forms & the abstracted spaces I find between individual branches & leaves. These paintings are sophisticated in terms of color & form, & yet remain incredibly soothing & serene to look at.

My hope is that these works not only make us more aware of our everyday environment, but offer visual comfort & calm.

Jill Sykes is a painter living in Los Angeles. Her paintings have been featured in exhibitions throughout Southern California including Tobey C. Moss Gallery, Scape Gallery, El Camino College Art Gallery and The Brand Library and Art Center. Her “Sycamore House,” a continuous shadow leaf design that was sand-blasted onto the exterior walls of a newly built home in Pacific Palisades for architect Michael Kovac was completed in 2009; “Yucca Forest” was a 4 month installation at the Museum of Art + History that exhibited in 2014.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Sykes completed her artist training at Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, and the Academy of Art/Lone Mountain College in San Francisco. Working as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator in the fields of Film and Business Advertising, Animation and Educational Media, she created countless corporate logos and artist catalogs. Always a painter, in the late 1990’s Sykes enrolled at the Santa Monica School of Design, Art and Architecture. This led to her current work in oils and printmaking.

Jill and fellow Brewery artist Ada Pullini Brown are co-curators of the upcoming exhibition, Let Me Talk, opening in January 2022 at the Brand Library and Art Center in Glendale, CA.
