As a Venezuelan-American photographer and interdisciplinary artist based in Los Angeles, my work explores the intersections of identity, memory, and displacement. My background in photography, video, and installation has allowed me to delve deeply into themes of cultural and sexual identity, using my art to create space for reflection and dialogue around these issues.
My experiences have shaped my approach to visual storytelling, where I combine elements of conceptual art with documentary photography. Much of my work is informed by my own personal history and the collective experiences of Latinx and queer communities.
During this fall’s Brewery ArtWalk, I will be presenting a small exhibition. The Venezuelans: Chronicles in Collage, Assemblage, and Video Art opens at The Brewery Art Lofts. This intimate exhibition will be featuring the compelling works of Venezuelan-American artists, Adriana Rondón, and Verónica Aponte, together with my own.
I will be showing several bodies of work. Los Imaginarios de la Identidad (2021) is a collage series that interrogates Venezuela’s turbulent socio-political history. I will also exhibit Photocollages de historia fragmentaria (2024), a series that blends my personal and political histories as a Venezuelan-American. These fragmented collages reflect on the fluidity of memory and the complex process of reconciling multiple identities. Additionally, Pixelated Landscapes (2023) juxtaposes natural landscapes of the American West with the emotional terrains of Latin America.
I hold an MFA in Photography + Media from California Institute of the Arts and an MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As an educator, I see education as an extension of my practice as an artist.
