Lynn Heinz
Statement:
My paintings are narratives. And I am always an unreliable narrator. In fiction, an unreliable narrator refers to the person telling the story who is not doing so in a complete, accurate, or truthful way. This could be due to their mental or psychic state, their own biases, or perhaps they are bending the truth for their own purpose. In my paintings I tell a story that is filtered through my own perceptions. I don’t seek to depict any reality that has ever existed in consensual or historic time and place. The sources are varied and completely unrelated to each other: found photos, family photos, and epherema I have collected. Using oils, acrylics, charcoal, I interpret colors and emotions from these. I add elements to amplify the narrative and leave out details that may have been lost to memory. I may or may not be telling the whole story. I leave that up for the viewer to decide.
