Teale Hatheway
Teale Hatheway is a Los Angeles based artist known for her mixed media paintings and installations of local architecture, streetlights and ornamental details. Inspired by her Los Angeles heritage, Hatheway works to create painted records of intimate connections with the built environment.
At its core, Hatheway’s work is about people. She contemplates ideas of memory, experience and the soulful residues left behind as people pass through physical spaces. Hatheway uses the visual languages of architecture, infrastructure, color and pattern to suggest the depth and complexity of the life of the city. Through these visual clues, her abstract paintings tease recognition and ask viewers to unplug, and tune into the tangible history surrounding them.
Over 50 galleries, museums and alternative spaces have exhibited Hatheway’s abstract architectural paintings and large-scale installations. Additionally, her work is held in many public, corporate and private collections including: Bellagio Hotel (Las Vegas, NV), Norwegian Cruise Lines (Bahamas), Pomona College (Claremont, CA), AEG Worldwide (Los Angeles, CA), The Los Angeles Athletic Club (Los Angeles, CA) and The Los Angeles Bureau of Street Lighting (Los Angeles, CA).
Along with her studio art discipline, Hatheway founded Pearl & Maude, a boutique wallpaper and decorative arts design studio. Their artisan made-to-order wallpaper, fabric and home décor is the result of experimentation, attention to detail and having a good time. All Pearl & Maude patterns are developed from Hatheway’s architectural paintings, resulting in highly original, classic and contemporary designs.
